Happy with the victory over the Czech Republic (72-64) and impressed by the atmosphere in the packed SEF, said Costas Antetokounmpo on the EEC website after the right foot in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers. The Panathinaikos center revealed that Vassilis Spanoulis was proud of his players in the locker room, while he gave the signal for Monday’s match against the Netherlands in The Hague (20:30).
-Kosta, how did you see the atmosphere that people created for you at SEF?
“Very good atmosphere, I’m very happy that people came and filled the stadium. He made a dynamic sold out. He helped us a lot with his support. With his voice he gave us strength, here at our headquarters and I am really very happy with these wonderful images”.
–Against the Czech Republic, the Greek National Team made an ideal start in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers. What led you to this important victory?
“What got us the win was the defense we played at the end. “Czech Republic is a good team that has shooters and in the end we made some important stops, important blocks and we were able to get ahead.”
– Against the Czech Republic, you had an important role, you showed your known passion, the necessary energy. How do you translate that in your mind?
“I am really very happy to be able to help the National Team. It is of course an honor. I will try to help her more and become better.”
– What did coach Vassilis Spanoulis say to you after the winning game against the Czech Republic?
“He told us that he is very proud of us. The first victory for the National Team was important. We have to continue the way we played in defence. Let’s be dynamic and continue at the same pace”.
-Ahead of the match there is the match against the Netherlands in The Hague (26/2). What should you pay attention to so that the National Team can make the 2/2?
“Exactly the same. The same recipe. To play well in defense, to “hit” in transition, to make easy baskets and from there I believe the defense will help us to find rhythm in the attack. Let’s play strong defense, be dogs at the back and let us get ahead.”
