Stoiximan Super League: In the hunt for AEK PAOK, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos

by

PAS Ioannina-OFI

In the last seven games of both teams and in both seats, OFI remains unbeaten. This streak started after a 1-0 win over PAS Ioannina on February 21, 2021. Since then there have been five draws and two wins for the Cretan side.

In total in the last eleven games between them there is only one victory of PAS Ioannina, while in their last three visits to the city of Epirus OFI have two draws and a 1-0 win, which occurred in their meeting last year for the Stoximan Playouts Super League.

PAS Ioannina in the history of the A’ National/Super League has welcomed OFI in 20 league matches, while once they have faced each other in double play-off matches to stay in the category.

The history of their encounters begins in the 1976-77 season which was the first time they coexisted in the major league. PAS Ioannina won both the first match in Crete and on June 16, 1977 with 4-3 as the home team.

The most popular score in the head-to-head matches with PAS Ioannina at home is 1-1 which has appeared five times, followed by 0-0 with four. PAS has three wins with 1-0.

The biggest victory of PAS Ioannina is in 1979-80 with 4-0 (25′ D. Seitaridis, 26′ Tsirimokos, 41′ Tsirimokos, 70′ Kontogeorgakis). OFI, for its part, has two wins with 1-0 and one with 2-1.

Panaitolikos-PAOK

PAOK has 18 consecutive wins against Panaitolikos in their matches in both league and Greek Cup venues. The last time the Agrinio team was not defeated by Dikephalos was on November 22, 2015, when the two teams drew 0-0 in Toumba.

PAOK has won in the last nine visits for the championship and in fact in six of them they have not conceded a goal. On August 24, 2013 was the last victory of the Agrinio team, when they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Bojović and Melissa.

The first meeting of the two teams took place on June 4, 1969 for the Greek Cup, and PAOK needed extra time to overcome the resistance of Panaitolikos, who were then competing in the second division, in order to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.

A few years later, in February 1976, the first match between them took place in the history of the First National/Super League and it was in Agrinio. PAOK with the goals of Sarafis (67′) and Kermanidis (85′) left with the victory. This also happened the following season, where Kostas Orfanos scored two goals for PAOK and Kostas Panaioannou scored one for Panaitolikos.

PAOK has three victories with 1-0 in Agrinio, while they follow with two appearances 0-2, 0-3 and 1-2. The only victory of Panaitolikos is 2-0 and the only draw is 1-1.

Olympiakos-Asteras Tripoli

For the 18th time, Olympiacos will host Asteras Tripoli, who maintain their unbeaten streak at home with the Arkadia team, having 15 wins and two draws.

The Reds have won their last six at home to Asteras Tripoli, who drew 1-1 on September 16, 2017. This was only the second time Olympiakos’ record has been broken at home, with the first having been combined with maiden game of the two teams at the Karaiskaki Stadium on March 1, 2008.

Then there were nine home games with as many wins for the Reds, a streak that was broken by Asteras Tripoli’s second draw at Karaiskakis Stadium on 28 January 2018, which was again 1–1.

Olympiacos is responsible for Asteras Tripoli’s biggest defeat in the Super League. 7-2 on March 25, 2012, when Kevin Mirallas found the net four times and the other goals came from Jibur, Orbaith and Foster.

Olympiacos has prevailed with various scores, but the most frequent against Asteras Tripoli are 3-0 and 1-0, which have been repeated three times.

Kostas Fortounis has scored a total of 11 goals against Asteras Tripoli, 9 in league matches and the other two in matches for the Greek Cup.

Aris-Volos

Aris has won the last four games against Volos at home and away. The two teams met last season four times, two in the regular season and two in the playoffs. The Yellows were defeated in the first of that series of games played at the home of Volos and then prevailed in Thessaloniki for the regular duration of the championship in both matches for the Playoffs of the Stoiximan Super League.

Three of their last four wins have come without conceding a goal, as have three of their four at home against Volos.

The four consecutive victories of Aris are not a record, since they still have a quartet with successes against Volos, from December 19, 2019 until February 5, 2022, which Volos won in Thessaloniki. In this first series he had four victories, where in three of them he had not conceded a goal.

In the total of eleven matches in both venues there is no draw between the two teams and Aris has won eight, while Volos has won three.

Their first meeting with home team Aris took place on December 19, 2019, with the Yellows winning 4-0 thanks to goals from Indeje and Gama, who scored two goals each.

Panathinaikos-Kifisia

Panathinaikos prevailed in the match of the 1st Round of Kifissia at the stadium of Kaisariani with 1-0 thanks to Mancini’s goal in the 58th minute

The Greens, with that victory, broke a bad tradition that they have had in recent years with the new teams in their away games, after they had been drawn in a goalless draw with Volos on December 8, 2019. Immediately before Volos, they had faced Lamia, with which they were held to a 1-1 draw in Fthiotida in their first game on 21 October 2017. In the home matches they had beaten Volos 4-1 in 2019-20 and Lamia 2-0 in 2017-18.

The last newly promoted team against whom they managed to get two wins in the season was Kalloni, which they beat 4-0 in OAKA in a game hosted by the Lesvos team on December 8, 2013, while in the Second Round the Greens prevailed 3-0 in a match that took place at the Alexandra Avenue stadium.

Panathinaikos and Kifissia have never met in the past even for the Greek Cup and the newly formed team will compete for the first time in its history at the Alexandra Avenue stadium.
