The golden streaks and “dynasties” that are threatened in the Panhellenic championship

The countdown to the Panhellenic Men’s – Women’s Wrestling Championship has begun! Next weekend in Argyroupoli, the best athletes will compete with the aim of winning the first titles of the year and of course getting into the pre-national teams.

The Panhellenic championship is the first major event for 2024 and naturally it has… an Olympic Games flavor. Giorgos Kougioumtsidis has already received the coveted ticket and will undoubtedly be one of the faces of the event. From there on, the participations of Maria Prevolarakis and Dauren Kourougliev, who glorified Greece in the recent European championship, stand out.

The absolute star of the Panhellenic championships, however, is Giorgos Prevolarakis. The Greek champion holds the longest active streak of consecutive golds. From 2016 to 2023 no one has been found to challenge his absolute dominance. It is worth noting, however, that they are not all in the same category (s.s. 77k that he usually competes), as in 2022 he was first in the 82k category. However, this year he is “chasing” his first gold medal as… a dad!

The Panhellenic championship still has two great protagonists who will seek to extend their… dynasty! They are Azamat Hosonov and Laokratis Kesidis, who next weekend will seek to win the fourth consecutive medal in the Panhellenic championship.

Both are riding the longest streak of consecutive titles in the same category, having won the gold medal in 2021, 2022, 2023. Khosonov had starred in the 125k. Eleftheras and Kesidis at 97k. Greco-Roman.

The third consecutive trophy is contested by seven more athletes, who had climbed to the highest step of the podium in 2023 and 2022. In the women’s wrestling, the athletes: Maria Prevolaraki (55kg), Tina Brandar (57kg) and Agoro Papavasileiou (76kg .)

Rolandos Saridis (70km), Givi Bliatze (92km) and Greco-Roman Elias Zairakis (55km) and Giorgos Sotiriadis (72km) have two consecutive gold medals in Elefthera.
