In an exciting game with a very high tempo and attacks… fire, the Fenerbahce imposed with 111-96 her Baskonia in Istanbul for the 27th matchday of the Euroleague!
The game was tight for three periods, with the hosts making a total of 19/34 three-pointers and “stepping on the gas” in the fourth quarter, winning by a partial score of 33-18 and celebrating the victory, thanks to which they improved their record in 16-11 and they remained in the top six which also gives a direct ticket to the playoffs. On the other hand, Baskonia fell to 14-13while at the same time it lost the difference with which it had prevailed in its meeting with Fener for the first round.
Protagonist for the winners o Nick Calathes, who finished the game with a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds), while also having 2 steals, thanks to which he overtook Dimitris Diamantidis on the list of players with the most steals in EuroLeague history! Also, for Fener, he had 19 points Hayes-Davies and 17 o Biberovich (with 5/6 three-pointers), with Papagiannis having 6 and Dorsey 4. As for the guests, they stood out Marinkovic (18p), Diet (15p with 5/5 three-pointers) and Monk (14p), with Rogavopoulos having 6, with 2/3 three-pointers.
The match:
The contest began with Calathes scoring the first basket, while Costello and Sanli hit 3-pointers, before Marinkovic tied the game at 5-5. With the defenses being… ignored in the early minutes and the pace being frenetic, Fenerbahce took advantage of their back-to-back 3-pointers to run away with a 13-9 lead. The hosts continued to “shoot” outside the 6.75m. (5/5), maintaining the small lead in their favor (21-16), however, Baskonia was also very accurate (11/13 three-pointers were made by both teams in the first quarter), closing the first period ahead with 34- 32, with McIntyre beating the clock with a coast to coast and well-timed layup in front of Motley!

The second period started with two 3-pointers by Sestina and one more by Guduric, for 8/8 (!) from a distance for Fenerbahce, which restored the lead in their favor to +5 (41-36). Papagiannis scored his first points in the match for 47-40, with Baskonia responding with an 8-0 run and two consecutive 3-pointers by Rogavopoulos, going ahead after an hour (47-48). With… led by the Greek center, who scored 6 points in the last minutes of the first half, the home team led 53-50, while the highly exciting and aggressive first half ended with Fener ahead 55-54.
The great derby continued even after the two teams returned from the locker room, with Marinkovic hitting his second three-pointer, reaching 14 personal points for 57-59 and with the lead changing hands for the 16th (!) time! Moneke’s two baskets extended Baskonia’s 7-0 set run to put them ahead 63-57, before Fener responded with an 11-2 run of their own, capped by a 3-pointer by Hayes-Davies, for 69-65 . Biberovic reached 5/5 three-pointers only in the third period, making it 78-75, while Dieth with a buzzer-beater of his own three-pointer (5/5 too), tied the score at 78-78!
