THE Emmanuel Karalis won the bronze medal in the pole vault at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and after his great success he spoke to the ERT camera.
Among other things, the 24-year-old athlete dedicated the medal to his mother, explained that he is doing well when he represents Greece and admitted that… he was even more scared after the bad start in the final!
What he said in detail:
“I don’t know, I haven’t realized it yet, I came as runner-up, I had no ambitions, I wanted a personal achievement but whenever I wear the national team shirt I’m doing well. Everything’s Alright.
Congratulations to the entire team and our coach who has managed to make this team a family. Everyone has given their best in the run-up to the open.
I have no words. I didn’t believe in myself coming here either. Only my mother believed, so I dedicate the medal to her. So when a mother believes in her son it’s a big deal.”
For his mother’s voice heard:
“Yes, the first medal in a World event is very important. So he supported me with everything.”
For the final:
Today I had technical difficulties with the races and the consistency I have, we were able to improve psychologically. When I’m happy and enjoying the competition we can do many things.
Pole vaulting is a technical event, I’ve gotten faster so things are changing. In these two years that I have been working with Haris Karalis, the coach, we have made many changes and I hope we can continue calmly.
To start with the two invalid attempts:
“Fuck me the truth is. You have to get harder poles and I managed to jump with the third one.”
On what he wants to do from now on:
“To sit down and calm down with my family, to sit down and rest because I have many competitions in the open until the European and Olympic games.”
