Athens Kallithea FC is being strengthened administratively with two “strong” executives

The arrival of Michael Sutherland, who until recently was an executive at Real Madrid, and that of businessman active in France, Andrej Begovic, Athens Kallithea FC announced.

Athens Kallithea FC announces two additions to its international ownership team with Michael Sutherland, Real Madrid’s executive for the past 4.5 years, and Andrej Bjegovic, the president of Kraft Heinz in France.

Madrid-based Sutherland served as Chief Transformation Officer at Real Madrid from July 2019 to November 2023, responsible for implementing transformational marketing, commercial, and technology strategies at the world’s leading soccer club. Prior to Real Madrid, Sutherland was a successful executive in Silicon Valley, and is an active angel investor and advisor to startup companies and venture capital.

Paris-based Bjegovic has been the president of Kraft Heinz France since April 2022, having previously served in executive roles for the company in Amsterdam and London. Bjegovic spent his youth at Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, and later played at Boston College in the United States, before returning to Europe.

AKFC has an international ownership group as of August 2021, led by principal shareholder Andrew Barroway, minority shareholder and chairman Ted Philippakos, minority shareholder and vice chairman Petros Philippakos, along with other US and European investors. Since then, AKFC have finished second in the Super League 2 South Group in each of the last two seasons, with the current season sitting top of the Super League 2 South Group going into the promotion playoffs as the club look to return in the first division for the first time since 2005/06.
