He made them known salaries of French referees the Equipe. The French medium revealed who are the most highly paid referees in the league, with Clement Turpin’s earnings reaching 260,000 euros in the 2022-2023 season.
Turpin is an elite referee and has previously whistled the 2022 Champions League final (Liverpool-Real Madrid 0-1) and the Europa League final between Villarreal and Manchester United in 2021, where the “yellow submarine” won in penalty kick. Last year he whistled 39 games, most in France and his fees reached 260 thousand euros.
For each league match in particular he receives 3,214 euros, 1,600 euros for second division matches, while when he was VAR he received 1,000 euros. As a UEFA elite referee, he also receives a monthly commission of €2,000.
As far as European matches are concerned, the amount jumps to 5,000 euros per match, while the number rises to 6,000 euros from the quarter-finals onwards. Turpin, however, is not the only one to have seen his earnings rise in recent years, as since refereeing became professional in France, elite referees have seen their annual income rise by €50,000.
It should be noted that the elite French referees are only four, with Francois Letier, Benoit Bastien and Stéphanie Frapard making up this category along with Turpin.
