Revealing Ekong about his injury: “I had a problem walking – I survived the matches with painkillers”

THE William Troost Ekong despite being injured from the Africa Cup of Nations groups, he managed to play in all the games with Nigeria, with whom he reached the final (defeated by Ivory Coast), while he was also player of the tournament.

Still, his problem was much more serious than he would expect, resulting in his return to PAOK to be knocked out and forced to undergo surgery in order to completely overcome it.

The 30-year-old gave an interview to CNN World Sports, explaining all the facts surrounding the injury situation, but also how he managed it: “I suffered from a torn biceps femoris. On the external tendon of the thigh. The first upset was during the match against Ivory Coast in the group stage. I was able to continue playing and when I had another MRI after the tournament we found out it was indeed broken.

Then I couldn’t really train because playing with this problem hurt so much. I was just trying to reduce the swelling with ice. I might train for 30 minutes a day before each game and then you can survive the match on a mixture of adrenaline and painkillers. I could see it clearly the day after the game as I was having trouble walking“, were the words of Ekong, who in previous statements had mentioned that his rehabilitation is going particularly well and it is possible that he will be available, as long as PAOK reach the final of the Europa Conference League.
