“PAE Olympiacos, following the successful action of the “Youth Football Tournament”, gives the opportunity to unaccompanied refugee children to take part in a series of training sessions not only at the Olympiacos training center, but also at the team’s schools in Attica. At the same time, they will have the opportunity to watch Olympiacos matches at the “Karaiskakis” stadium. Also in the near future they will again take part in tournament matches as announced by Nikos Gavalas Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at the Olympiacos FC company, speaking at the “Corporate Responsibility in Action” conference, organized by Boussias events.
“It is a program that we will run next year” announced Mr. Gavalas. The action “Youth Football Tournament” which was implemented by PAE Olympiacos, ?participated? in it 40 unaccompanied minor boys of different nationalities, aged 15-17 years, as well as football players from the team’s Academy.
The forty children came from Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Bangladesh, Guinea, Liberia, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Haiti, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Egypt and Syria.
Alassane Keita, who came to our country from the Ivory Coast, is one of the mentors of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum and shared the experience of the children from the “Youth Football Tournament”, as he himself was an unaccompanied minor. “The joy of the children cannot be described when they heard the invitation,” he said characteristically. “At first they didn’t believe it and asked a lot of questions, and when they got to Rentis at the training center, their joy was really visible,” he recalls. “These kids may never have had the opportunity to go to a stadium in Afghanistan and Asian countries and they kept telling us that this whole experience was the best they had ever had, it was their best day in Greece.”
Ambition and goal of the tournament? was to bring unaccompanied minors in contact with their peers through sports and in particular to know its advantages, cooperation, teamwork and noble rivalry.
