Estoril “cut” the road to Porto

by

This year’s title is lost for Porto in the Primeira Liga. The “dragons” lost 0-1 at home to Estoril for the 27th matchday and were -10 behind leaders Sporting Lisbon and -9 behind second-placed Benfica seven games before the league finale, with the hosts escaping in +5 from the relegation places.

Estoril surprised the “dragons” and scored with Casiano’s goal in the 69th minute after Diogo Costa was sent off in the 65th minute. In the final minutes, Fernandes in the 89th minute, Vitale in the 93rd minute and Pepe in the 103rd minute received a red card and were sent off as well.

Guimaraes, who beat Moreirense 1-0 at home to move provisionally level in fourth place with Braga, who have a game in hand and play at home to Portimonense on Monday, remain in the top-four hopes, with the hosts staying at -11 of the privileged positions.

Aruca went up, beating Firenze 2-1 at home and leaving them at +4 from the danger zone.

Boavista and Rio Ave were unable to move far from the dangerous positions after their 0-0 draw at Do Bessa.
