Of great statistical importance but also with historical ramifications was the AEK’s victory over Olympiakos (1-0) at the OPAP Arena for the second matchday of the Stoiximan Super League playoffs.
The association” beat the “red and whites” as a home team in a league match for the first time since 2017 and the epic reversal from 0-2 to 3-2 in OAKA with the goal of Petros Mandalos in the 89th minute. Since then, they have had five draws and the same number of defeats against Piraeus, with the only winning result at home 3-0 for the first quarter-final of the Cup last year.
It is worth noting that now AEK “runs” a streak of five games without defeat against Olympiakos in the championship. The “yellow and black” had a similar streak three other times, between 1961 and 1963, between 1984 and 1986 and between 1994 and 1997. However, on the three aforementioned occasions it included two wins and three draws, while the current streak includes three wins and two draws, which does it the best streak against Olympiakos in its history.
AEK’s unbeaten streak began on April 23, 2023 with a 1-3 win at “G. Karaiskakis” and continued on March 5 with the 0-0 draw between the two teams at OPAP Arena for the playoffs, while this year, before yesterday’s 1-0 draw, Matias Almeida’s team had drawn 1-1 with Olympiakos at OPAP Arena on September 17 and prevailed 2-1 in Faliro on January 7 for the regular season of the league.
