The 3rd stage, which will be held on May 17, is the “royal” of this year’s event, a real competitive “jewel” for the PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024. With a length of 159.71 kilometers and an altitude of 4,528 m, the route from the Karditsa in Velouhi has nothing to envy from the corresponding stages of the three great Tours (France, Italy and Spain), while the rare natural beauty of Lake Plastira and Evrytania will convey magical images through the television broadcast all over the world .
The uphill climb to Velouchi will be the climax of the stage, since it is an Out of Category (HC) climb sprint, 12 kilometers long with an average gradient of 8.5% and a maximum gradient of 15.3%! The uphill terrain will start as soon as the athletes reach Karpenisi and there we expect the “mother of battles” between the contenders for the general classification, but also for those who will aim for the jersey of the mountains.
Velouhi or Tymfristos has an altitude of 2,315 m (16th highest peak in Greece, 4th in Central Greece) and is covered by dense forests, mainly firs. Karpenisi is built on its slopes, while the Sperchios and Karpenisiotis rivers originate from the mountain. At Diavolotopos, at an altitude of 1,858 meters (where the stage will end), there is a ski center, the first in Greece to be founded by private individuals in 1974.
