Lucescu: “I’m sad – We have to change our image”

At the press conference after PAOK’s 1-1 draw with Lamia, he spoke Razvan Lucescu.

The Romanian coach commented on the game and then emphasized how important it is for his team to win the next match against AEK.

His statements in detail:

For the image of PAOK that is without energy and the rotation that has been closed: “I think we did enough rotation, if that happened it happened because decisions were made, the last matches showed me things. The players took chances and I didn’t feel comfortable with some of them. There was a huge rotation, we fought, we prepared the matches, we went from hotel to hotel, we tried to find freshness. We lacked the reaction to make quick decisions, we are not ready to press and we always come second or third and wait and react late.

The desire to work is there, in all the matches, we fight we don’t give up, but we have a big lack of energy, what makes a difference is the aggression in the actions. We played against an honest team, against them we had opportunities, it is also important that the details give us different energy, self-confidence. We accepted both the goal in the final and the lack in the last action, we made passes and did not take our responsibility, we bring the ball into the area. We didn’t train as a team for a long time because of back-to-back games, and that affected our work. Maybe you don’t care that much, but I say it as I feel.”

If he feels bitter:It’s normal to feel sad, because everyone has their own thoughts. I have been positive in thinking this season, I try to give positive energy to the team. We entered the League with this positive image, I believe the football we played until mid-February was good, we reacted very well against Dinamo and against Panathinaikos and AEK. Then our energy, our belief was shaken, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, what will happen on Sunday, they gave everything. We are a team that has to be at 100% to achieve things, otherwise we suffer. Today two players played because we had no other chances without them being ready due to the viruses. I say the things that may not be of interest to you, but are important to us.”

For the match with AEK: “In football, a match is determined by one action, by one phase. We are going to give it our all, hoping that one detail will bring the match in our favor, that the switch will turn. I said that the match against Lamia is crucial, we had to get a victory to bring excitement and energy again. In any case, the match against AEK is important to fight to win”.

On whether the situation in the team can turn around psychologically in view of AEK: “This is our job, this is what we want to pass, it’s about me. We need to change the image we give off physically. To win duels, to make up our distance”.
