Para-Swimming: Two silver medals for Michalentzakis and Stamatopoulou in Madeira

The start of the medals for the Greek colors on Wednesday at the finals of the European Para-Swimming Championships in Madeira was made by Dimosthenis Michalentzakis in the 100m freestyle S8, where in the final he was third with a time of 59.63, but second European, as the Australian Simpson was first and followed Israeli Mark Maliar with 59.49.

The same had happened in the morning in the first qualifying series, where Michalentzakis was again second with a time of 1:0025, behind the Australian, with 59.28, but first European and with the best time of both qualifying series.

The successes of the Greek mission continued a little slower, with Alexandra Stamatopoulou at 50m. S4 backstroke to claim yet another silver medal, his second of the third day of competition and fifth overall. Last year’s world champion in the same pool finished first in the first heat with a time of 51.61 which was the best in both heats.

In the final, Stamatopoulou in a time of 51.15 finished in second place behind German Botsker, who finished in 51.01.

On Thursday, the fourth day of the event, Giorgos Sfaltos will compete in the men’s 100m breaststroke SB5 and Maria Tsakona will compete in the women’s event. Also, Alexandra Stamatopoulou at 50m. freestyle S4 and Yiannis Kostakis at 50m. free S3.
