According to the Deputy Spokesman of the UN Secretary-General, daily exchanges of fire continue along the Blue Line, repeatedly violating the cessation of hostilities and Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
“The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has informed us that tensions remain high in the southern part of the country,” UN Secretary-General Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said during the regular briefing of accredited editors, stressing that the daily exchanges of fire (including Israel-Hezbollah) continue along the Blue Line, repeatedly violating the ceasefire and Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
“UNIFIL reiterates its call for an end to these exchanges of fire and for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any action that could lead to further escalation,” Mr. Haque said.
While tensions continue, the head of UNIFIL and commander of the blue helmets, Spanish infantry general Aroldo Latharo is in constant contact with civilians, including religious leaders in Tyre. General Latharo expressed his gratitude for their continued support to UNIFIL.
