Olympiacos made history! With a commanding performance against Ferentsvaros, the “red and white” prevailed with a score of 39-32 in the second leg of the semi-finals EHF European Cup and qualified for the final for the first time in their history!
Zeliko Babic’s team had the upper hand throughout the match, having on its side the support of a large number of people who were in the closed stadium of Ilioupoli.
In the final they will face the winner of the pair Valur-Minaur Mare, with the former leading 36-28 from the first match. It is worth noting that the dates of the double finals have not yet been announced.
Ferentsvaros was the one who initially took the lead in the match, up to 6-5 (8′) with Olympiakos not letting them get away. The “red and whites” took the lead for the first time in the 10th minute with 7-6 and gradually began to increase the difference with short runs, until 21-18 at halftime.
In the first five minutes of the second half, Ferentsvaros was down to two goals (23-21). Olympiacos answered with a three-goal run for 26-21 in the 38th minute and in the next two minutes, they increased the difference to +6 (28-22).
The Hungarians tried to get back into the game in the 50th minute, when they were down 33-29, but Olympiacos responded with a separate 4-1 run and escaped to +8 (37-29), paving the way for the historic qualification with 39-32 .
