“The break-in of the office of the head of the Elections Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, proves once again the lack of elementary credibility, seriousness and security measures in the Ministry of the Interior” commented the secretary of the KO and head of KTE Interior of PASOK-KINAL Evangelia Liakoulis on the occasion of related publications.

Evangelia Liakoulis added that “a service at the core of the state, in charge of conducting the elections and drawing up the electoral lists, is becoming a target of attacks with unknown intentions”.

At the same time, the secretary of PASOK’s KO – KINAL claims that the Ministry of the Interior is an “open vine”, asking for “clear answers and information. What exactly happened? What elements were the target of the breach at the Ministry of the Interior and what is their relationship with the email gate?”.

He emphasized that the risks created for the conduct of the electoral process, as well as the compilation and confidentiality of the electoral rolls and sensitive personal data of citizens, are enormous.

“Citizens’ trust in the state is irreparably shaken” underlined Ms. Liakoulis, while pointing out that “we continue to experience the huge scandal of the leaking of the personal emails of our expatriate compatriots. Greek citizens who trusted the Greek State by registering on the relevant platforms in order to vote, but the Government made sure to “share” their personal data with MEPs and candidate MEPs of the New Democracy. Yesterday’s announcement by the Ministry of the Interior regarding the delivery of the Internal Audit Unit’s findings to the Justice Department, the exercise of disciplinary controls and the alleged strengthening of personal data protection measures, is an admission of responsibility. A responsibility that falls directly on the political leadership of the Ministry of the Interior, who, from the moment the case was revealed, tried to downplay the fact and disorient public opinion.”

The break-in of the office of the head of the elections department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs raises reasonable questions and requires immediate answers, says the PASOK press representative Thanasis Glavinas. “The scandal of the leakage of personal data of thousands of Apodimen will not become another field to cover up the ND’s misdeeds” he emphasizes in his post on X.
