Greece made history at the World Cheerleading Championship held in Orlando, America, April 24-26, 2024. For the first time, a Greek team reached the podium and won a bronze medal.
Athletes Anna Geroyan and Thomai Thanasis from the Aposperides club with impressive and perfectly executed choreography, both in the semi-final and the final, managed to overtake superpowers in the sport of Cheerleading and emerge third in the world! The gold world medal in the Senior Hip Hop category was won by Thailand and the silver by Japan.
The Bronze World Champions after winning the medal said:
Anna Geroyan: “Seeing the mat of the world for 6 years, all we wanted was to go up there and represent our country. I shudder to think that we have achieved our dream and how much we have also won a bronze medal. I am very excited about what we have achieved. Hard work pays off!”
Thomas Thanasis: “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to live such a unique experience. The feelings are indescribable and although it is an unprecedented experience, from the first moment I felt familiarity in this environment”.
The president of the Hellenic Cheerleading Federation, Michalis Fundedakis, who led the Greek delegation to America, said: “Congratulations to our athletes for winning the bronze medal! We feel proud of Anna and Thomai who started and wrote a new page in our sport. We hope that more world medals will follow in the future”.
The Bronze World Champions, together with the people of the Aposperides club who accompany them, will return with the medal to Athens and Eleftherios Venizelos, on the morning of Tuesday, April 30, at 10:00.
