It was April 24 when o Thiago Silva had stated that in a few days he would announce his decision regarding his future and today (29/4) Chelsea posted a video, with the 39-year-old sending his own message, about what he went through during his four years at the Londoners, with tears in his eyes, announcing his departure from the club next summer.
The former Milan and Paris Saint-Germain defender has made 151 appearances in England, with 9 goals and 3 assists, having celebrated winning the Champions League in 2021, a Fifa Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup.
His statements in detail:
“Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of staying only for one year and it ended up being four years. Not only for me but also for my family.
My sons play for Chelsea, so it’s a great pride to be part of the Chelsea family – literally because my sons are here. I hope they can continue their careers here at this winning club that many players want to be a part of.
I think that in everything I’ve done here in the four years, I’ve always given it my all. But, unfortunately, everything has a beginning, middle and end. This does not mean that this is the end for good. I hope to leave the door open to return in the near future, albeit in a different role here.
But… it is an indescribable love. I can only say thank you. Obviously, when I started here, it was during the pandemic, so there were no fans in the stadium. But through social media, it became something very special for me and then when the fans started coming back to the stadium and life got back to normal, I started to feel a lot of affection and respect for my story and my start here.
It is already difficult to say goodbye in the most normal circumstances, but when there is a mutual love, it is even more difficult. But once blue, forever blue.
The way I came to the club, with the support of the club, I came to the club as a leader even though I didn’t feel like I arrived as a youngster. It’s always hard to fit in, but I slowly became part of the group and (Frank) Lampard played a big part in that. I am grateful to him for that.
[Ήταν] dream, definitely a dream. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could achieve such great things and win one of the best professional titles, the Champions League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Goodbyes are for those who leave and never return. I plan to return one day…»
Four years, countless memories.
