Clattenberg has stepped down from his role as Nottingham Forest’s refereeing analyst

by

Past from Nottingham Forest The Mark Clattenberg.

The former England international referee had taken up a refereeing consultant role at the Premier League club since last February, announcing his departure three months later, stressing that it brought more problems than solutions to the team.

“I offered my services in good faith and to the best of my ability, in the hope that my experience as a referee would help Nottingham understand that important decisions in a match by referees relate to the operation of VAR.

However, it is now clear that the existence and performance of these particular consultancies has caused a great deal of tension between Nottingham and other players, to the point where it is now more of a hindrance than a benefit to the team.

It also led to some relentless personal attacks on me personally from various media and actors. I did not foresee such unacceptable reactions, since I sincerely believe that there is a place for a similar role in modern football. I’m grateful to Nottingham and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season, it was an honour.”the former chief referee of KED said characteristically in his “farewell”.
