A crowd of believers attended the ceremony of the first epitaph procession in Thessaloniki, from the Holy Church of Agios Minas, Patron Saint of the City’s Merchants.

In an atmosphere of religious fervor and emotion, a crowd of people followed the procession of the first Epitaph to the Holy Church of Agios Minas, or otherwise also the church of the market, in order to watch the climax of the Divine Drama by the employees of the shops of the Historical Center of the city.

The peculiarity of this year’s tour was the route followed by the epitaph of the merchants, who after many years also passed through Egnatia street, while more specifically the route was as follows: Ionos Dragoumi, Tsimiski, Venizelou, Egnatia street and then Ionos Dragoumi to return to the Holy Temple.

The procession was accompanied for the first time by His Holiness Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, while for another year the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Armed Forces, Red Cross volunteers, scouts and political departments participated.

During the procession, the faithful sang the mournful hymn, without this year having to face the weather.

Agios Minas is the patron of the commercial market of Thessaloniki, as in 1856, the renovation of the Holy Church was carried out with money from the merchants of Venice and Thessaloniki. It should be noted that in the “market church” the praises of Good Friday are sung at 3:00 p.m. and at 5:00 p.m. the procession of the Epitaph begins.

The ceremony was attended by the general secretary of the ND parliamentary group, Stavros Kalafatis, the deputy regional governor of the Metropolitan Unity of Thessaloniki, Kostas Ioutikas, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, parliamentarians of Thessaloniki and city officials.
