by

THE Victor Webanyama he had one season like no other rookie in history NBA.

Scored the most points, collected the most rebounds, had the most blocks and made the most steals. No rookie in the League to date has averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.

Until today!

This is how normal development looks like the French center was named the NBA Rookie of the Season and became the third player from San Antonio to receive this award, after David Robinson in 1990 and Tim Duncan in 1998. Both, in fact, were selected as No. 1 in NBA draft in their respective years.

Webanyama became the sixth player since the award’s appearance in the 1952/53 season leading every vote, behind Ralph Sampson (1984), Robinson (1990), Clippers’ Blake Griffin (2021), Portland’s Damian Lillard (2013) and Karl-Anthony Towns of Minnesota (2016).

At the same time, the 20-year-old athlete became the first non-American winner of the award since Luka Doncic in 2019 and the fourth in the last ten seasons. Webaniyama became the 4th player at the same time, and the first rookie, who finishes the season with 1,500 points, 250 assists and 250 blocks, trailing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (five times), Hakeem Olazuwon (twice) and Robinson (also twice). No one since the 1993/94 season had done anything similar.
