Panagiotis Gionis left on Thursday morning for Dusseldorf, where he was invited to a short training camp for great European athletes who are preparing for the Sarajevo Pre-Olympics (15-19/05). The camp is jointly organized by the local Borussia, one of the top European clubs, and the German Table Tennis Federation. It will take place from 9 to 12/05 at the excellent facilities of the “ARAG Center”.
Gionis goes to Dusseldorf together with the national coach, Kostas Vatsaklis, who was also personally invited to the preparation meeting. The two will go next Monday from there to the capital of Bosnia/Herzegovina and will meet with the rest of the Greek delegation.
In Athens, Yannis Sgouropoulos, Katerina Toliou and Elisavet Terpou continue and will complete their preparation for the Pre-Olympics.
In addition to the women’s federal coach, Giorgos Karytsa, SEF also has the 48-year-old coach Konstantinos Kostopoulos, who in a two-month extraordinary collaboration with E.F.O.E.P.A. has the role to help in the best possible preparation for the Pre-Olympics.
Our champions will also train on Monday at the Faleri stadium and in the evening of the same day they will leave for Sarajevo together with Karytsa.
Strong German internationals will, of course, also participate in the Dusseldorf minicamp, regardless of whether their country will not be present in Sarajevo because it has already qualified for the team for Paris and automatically has two guaranteed spots in the singles.
The training program has been drawn up by the Dutchman Danny Heister, long-time coach of Borussia (he had also worked with Gionis in the team in the two years 2014-2016) and the German federation, Jörg Roskopf, who invited the Greek duo with free accommodation.
Gionis was deemed necessary, in fact, as one of the best defenders in the world.
