With Sgouropoulos, Eslov wins the first title in the Swedish Table Tennis League

by

On Sunday night, Yiannis Sgouropoulos’ Eslov beat Soderham 4-0 in front of 350 spectators in the first playoff final of the Swedish Table Tennis League. The Greek European champion scored the positive result in the opening match and contributed to the victory in a match much more difficult than the final score indicates.

The second match takes place on Wednesday, and if Eslove makes it 2-0 in front of their home crowd, they will add another championship to their trophy case. If she is defeated and it becomes 1-1, a decisive third final will follow next Thursday, also at her home.

In the final of the Nationella serie Pingisligan Herrar the first two teams of the regular season reached, Eslov from the top. In the semi-finals, we remind you, they had eliminated the Record of Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos and the Sparwagen of Konstantinos Angelakis respectively and it was also excellent news for our international players and Greek table tennis that they were all in the playoffs of a top European championship.

In the sports hall of Sonderham, the Swedish fans saw numerically a clear superiority of the favorite, however behind the numbers the picture was more balanced. Mainly because of the home side’s outstanding athlete, Anders Eriksson, who twice came within two points of victory. The first time, Sgouropoulos took him down and, in fact, with a reversal. The Eleusinian ace was behind 0-2 and won 3-2 in overtime of the fifth set (12-10).

With Eriksson, who is the seventh most effective athlete in this year’s championship, he also went to five sets with the current European champion of the men’s team with Sweden, Truls Meregaard.
