Seven-man Fiorentina before Olympiakos: Beat Cagliari with… a buzzer-beater penalty in the 113′!

by

It secured its European participation in an improbable way and now… Olympic for the Fiorentina!

The “Violas” won away from home with 3-2 Cagliari for its 38th and last matchday Serie Ain a rock game with three (!) goals after 85′ that sent the opponent of the “red and white” to the final Conference League from hell to…heaven.

And this is because Vincenzo Italiano’s team would be involved with Europe through the championship with a possible loss of points, however, with today’s victory they locked the 8th place with 57 points which leads to Conference League of the following period, leaving at -4 in the 9th, Torino. On the other hand, Cagliari in 15th place with 36 points has secured the stay and does not have any substantial motivation in the last matches.

Now, the “Violas” turn to the OPAP Arena final against Piraeus (29/05, 22:00), while they will be indifferent to the postponed 29th matchday against Atalanta (02/06) in the last match of the season.

Italiano lined up Fiorentina with several changes with the final in mind, but saw his side open the scoring in the 39th minute with Bonaventure.

In the second half the hosts had the upper hand and in the 64th minute Deyola equalized, while in the 85th Mutadwa turned the score upside down with a terrific shot from outside the area.

And while everything showed that Fiorentina had no answer, o Nico Gonzalez tied the game in 89′ and 90’+10′ Beltran won a penalty after VAR review. THE Arthur took over the execution and in the 113th minute he scored the buzzer-beater, giving the victory to the “Violas”!
