Olympiacos-Real: A “bill” before the final

by

A “debt” from last year needs to be paid off. THE Olympic competes with the Real in his second semi-final Berlin Final 4, on Friday night (22:00, Novasports Prime, News Bulletin 247 and sport-fm.gr). The “red and whites” are aiming for the tenth final in their history and the fourth European, but first they must get rid of the team that deprived them of the title last year, with Sergio Yul’s knife-shot.

The “red and white” have already achieved their main goal, with third consecutive Final 4 appearance for the first time in their history. The team with the smallest budget among those who reached the final four managed to overcome the departure of stars like Vezenkov and Slukas, not to be “chewed” by the many injuries or the home disadvantage and are now two wins away from the big cup. This year’s weapon is the experience of the previous two years, with Kostas Papanikolaou to reach the eighth Final 4 of his career.

THE George Bartzokas, in his fifth Final 4 (four with Olympiakos, one with Lokomotiv Kuban), sees his team without competitive problems for the first time this season. The minor problems that existed after the grueling playoff series against Barcelona have been eliminated and the pleasant headache has to do with the players who will be left out of the squad. The most prevalent for this are the Sikma, Lountzis, Tanoulis and one of Brazdeikis and Mitrou-Long.

The points that will decide Olympiacos-Real

On the contrary, the Real after winning last year’s title, against the odds after everyone had written her off after the 0-2 loss to Partizan in the playoffs, she came to Berlin as a favorite for twelfth. More complete than last year, since the injured will be missing again Dec but this year (punished last year) is available Yabusele and returned o Campachothe “queen” wants to add another jewel to its crown, as it is the first team not only in conquests (CSKA has 8 and Panathinaikos-Maccabi from 6), but also in participation in finals with twenty.

Real Madrid players have won the EuroLeague a total of 23 times, far more than the rosters of the other Final 4 teams combined. Yul, Rudy and “Chacho” they have stepped on the top of Europe three times (Tavares, Campazo and Cozer have two each) and want to add to the list of only twelve players with four the most conquests since the birth of the institution in the distant 1958. In addition, for Yule that of Berlin it is the tenth Final 4, while “Chatso” and Rudy have nine each.

What does tradition say?

Will Olympiacos manage to stop Real’s march towards the… duodecima? In the four finals that have met in the past, the “queen” counts three victories (1995, 2015, 2023) and Piraeus one (2013). The two groups they have already met 51 times, with the “blancos” having 28 wins and the “red and white” 23. In fact, on October 16, 2000, they gave Madrid the first match of the new Euroleague, with Real winning 75-73. Analytically:
