The EDE was not completed, the file was returned to EL.AS, say Kyriaki’s mother’s advocates

The EDE has not been completed regarding the responsibilities of the police in the femicide in Agioi Anargyros, as the advocates of the victim’s mother were informed.

With a press release, the advocates inform that the EDE file was returned by the Ombudsman to ELAS and that the procedure for the responsibilities of police bodies in the case has not been completed.

As the two lawyers state in a Press Release they issued, “despite the selective and inaccurate leaks of ELAS circles, in violation of official confidentiality, on 05-28-2024 the Brigadier General of ELAS and Director of the Sub-Directorate of Administrative Examinations informed us, after the more than a month later, that in the end the EDE was not completed”.

According to the lawyers’ Press Release:

“As the reason for the non-completion of the EDE, it is stated that the file was returned to ELAS, by the Ombudsman, which functions as the National Mechanism for the Investigation of Arbitrary Incidents.

We had pointed out in all tones, that the selective leakage of the disciplinary file, with the entrenchment of the responsibilities only on specific police officers and only for specific sections, was not appropriate, and that is why we turned to the Citizen’s Ombudsman, for his own legal action to put an end to the observed abuse of power.

The return of the file to the Director of the Sub-Directorate of Administrative Examinations, who, in fact, never responded to our requests in time, and who never called the family for a deposition, irreparably exposes ELAS”.

At the same time, the mother’s lawyers emphasize:

“Strangely, the criminal case file filed against the police officers, completely inadequately, to investigate only the crime of dereliction of duty, and not others, was not forwarded in copies for correlation and assessment in the disciplinary file, with all that entails.

Unfortunately, there is an unimaginable obstruction and incomplete fulfillment of the duty on the part of specific ELAS officials, and we have informed the Court of Justice about all of this in a timely manner. Unfortunately, it is not the first time that when police bodies are investigated for acts against citizens, there is a delay and cover-up attitude. On the contrary, when the Police are investigated following complaints from state bodies, there is sometimes an attempt to abuse power against them.”

Finally, the Press Release states: “The mother and sister of Kyriaki Griva will not allow the case to be covered up and will exhaust every legal remedy, even if they have to turn to European control mechanisms. There is a Limit to trivializing processes, and that Limit has long since been crossed. It would be prudent for the Minister, Mr. Michalis Chrysochoidis, to check and save the Honor of the House”.
