The OAKA Olympic Training Centerin which upgrade projects are being implemented as part of the wider interventions of more than 62 million euros, was visited on Thursday morning (04/06) by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Prime Minister was given a tour of the grounds, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsisand was informed by the general director of OAKA,Konstantinos Haliorisfor the projects, which have been implemented or are in the implementation stage.
At the same time, he talked with them Milto Tedoglou, Emmanuel Karalisas well as with other athletes preparing for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games and with their coaches.
“I am particularly happy about the overall effort being made to upgrade all sports infrastructure, 20 years after the 2004 Olympics. It is very encouraging to see our champions express satisfaction for the improvement of training conditions. We have other things to do“, said, initially, the Mitsotakis and continued:
“We always listen to the suggestions of our champions regarding the specifications of the installations and how they should be done. But we must not forget that OAKA is basically a mass sports venue. We want even more people. You were telling me 18,000 to 20,000 a day. When, hopefully, we can repair the open fields and shape the whole area, I believe that this attendance will rise even more“, while adding:
“And we will put into practice what was the original vision, which unfortunately got lost somewhere during the crisis years: for OAKA to really be the point of reference and the meeting place of championship and amateur sports. And of course, the rest of the moves that have been made, the granting of the indoor facility to Panathinaikos, the investments made in the tennis courts -since racket sports are now booming-, the interventions that have been made in the swimming pool, very important, and of course , the rest of the investments that will be launched, I think will turn OAKA into what all of us – and I use the first plural as an athlete – have always dreamed of. So congratulations».
