The Prometheus OEM announcement:
KAE Prometheus Patras is pleased to announce the extension of Ilias Papatheodorou’s contract, giving the “keys” to the Greek coach for the new season as well, so that he can continue what he started building with great success this year.
Ilias Papatheodorou started his term on the Prometheus bench last summer and within a few months he managed to put his own philosophy and identity into the team’s game. In a transitional year for the “oranges”, the experienced coach led the team to the quarter-finals of the Basketball Champions League and the Final 4 of the Greek Cup, while in the Basket League the “Promethis” ranked 4th in the regular season and 5th after the Play Offs.
Ilias Papatheodorou was born in Athens on June 20, 1975. In his coaching career, he has managed to be associated with many successes, both at the national and collective level. He started his career from the Athenian academies (1995-2001), while he then worked for a season as an assistant in the Byron team (2001-2002). His first experiences as a head coach were in teams of lower categories, Larissaikos (2002-04) and Markopoulos (2004-07). Afterwards, he took over Kifissia, at the helm of which he remained until 2016, leading the club of the Northern Suburbs to successive promotions, from the local championships of ESKA, to the…living rooms of the Basket League. In 2016-17, Papatheodorou worked for Astana, with whom he won the championship and the cup of Kazakhstan. He returned again to the Greek league on behalf of PAOK (2017-19), while later he went to AEK (2019-2021), leading the “two-headed team” to win the Cup (2020), against Prometheus in the final, while the same season the “Union” was a finalist in the Basketball Champions League. In the 2022-23 season, the Greek coach led Colossos Rhodes to seventh place in the Basket League. Since last year he has been in Patras and Prometheus, with whom he is expanding his collaboration.
We are very happy for the extension of our cooperation with Ilias Papatheodorou and we wish him many more successes, both on a personal level and on a team level.
