While not all places have been booked for the Olympic table tennis tournament (to be held July 27-August 10 at the “South Paris Arena 4”), Greece has known since last month and the European pre-Olympic that it has secured eighth consecutive representation at the greatest sporting event on the planet.
As in Rio in 2016 and in Tokyo in 2021, the huge Gionis captures this special moment and is preparing to write history himself, as he joins the top club of only four Greeks who will have six appearances at the Olympic Games!
The great defender continues his preparation both on the table and in physical condition and has arranged his program until the departure for the French capital. His next competitive activity will be for the Polish League.
He will leave for the Eastern European country next Wednesday and join Bogoria Grodzisk ahead of the league final, which will take place on 22/06 in Warsaw. Dzialdovo will be the opponent again this year.
On the 23rd of the month, Gionis will return to Athens to support Panathinaikos in the A1 national division playoffs. A short rest will follow and on 01/07 training will resume at a strong pace.
On July 8, Gionis will leave for one of the two strong training camps abroad, where he is invited together with the federal coach, Costas Vatsaklis.
First comes the preparatory meeting in Dusseldorf, in whose excellent facilities he had trained for a few days before the Sarajevo pre-Olympic tournament, again at the invitation of the German organizers.
The meeting in Dusseldorf will last a week and, from there, Gionis and Vatsaklis will go to Denmark and the impressive Olympic Center of Brodby for another preparation meeting.
This one is organized by the Danish table tennis federation and both, of course, take place in the run-up to the Olympic Games and will bring together qualified athletes from different countries. In the recent past, Gionis and other Greek internationals have been in Brodby for training.
Gionis will return from the camps on 7/20, he will continue his training in Athens and after a few days he will leave for Paris.
