Two more teams enter the “battle” of Euro 2024!
THE Portugal and the Czech republic face each other at the “Red Bull Arena” in Leipzig (22:00, ERT1, sport-fm.gr, News Bulletin 247), starting their obligations for the event. We remind you that the other two teams of the sixth group are Georgia and Turkey.
Starting with the Iberians, it is safe to say that the Portugal is one of the big favorites of the tournament. Its leader will of course be Cristiano Ronaldo, who at 39 shows no signs of stopping his consistent scoring. However, there are plenty of other great players in each line, such as Ruben Diaz, Joao Cancelo, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leao and many others.
In general, the Portuguesefollowing a completely different recipe with the attack devotee Roberto Martinez, they want to take advantage of the excellent quality of their material, which is probably the best they have ever managed. Even in their Euro 2016 triumph, the roster was much weaker, with Fernando Santos leading the team in a style of… stealth warfare. It remains to be seen if the difference in mindset is the ‘key’ to taking the team to the top.
THE Portugal they were in the 10th and final group of the qualifiers. He was called to face Slovakia, Luxembourg, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Liechtenstein. The difficulty level of the group was very low, but again what the Iberians did was impressive as they measured 10/10 wins (only team in the qualifiers), they scored 36 goals (record in the qualifiers) and accepted only 2 (record in the qualifiers).
On the other hand, we find her Czech republic, which is preparing for its eighth consecutive appearance in the Euro final phase! Immediately after qualifying for the event, it was announced the departure of its coach of five years, Yaroslav Silvakhiwith the 60-year-old Ivan Hasek to replace him. Its team includes plenty (13 to be exact) of footballers who compete in the domestic league and plenty of talent, while among the names that stand out are those of Patrick SchickLeverkusen striker, Hlosek’s teammate, and Suchek, Sufal who play in the Premier League with West Ham.
We remind you that three years ago, the always predictable Czech republic managed to impress everyone by defying the odds and reaching the quarterfinals where she failed to overcome her hurdle Denmark. Earlier, he had managed to overcome her Scotland and to qualify as third behind England and Croatia, while in the “16” stage he made the big surprise by flying out of the Netherlands.
In the qualifiers, he found himself in a theoretically passable group, with Albania, Poland, Moldova and the Faroe Islands. However, they struggled quite a bit and had to wait until the final matchday to beat 3-0 Moldova and eventually finish in second place, behind the group’s surprise, Albania. Essentially, he took advantage of a poor showing from Poland, who disappointed and finished third, securing qualification through the playoffs.
Possible lineups:
