Pyrreos was the France win over Austria (1-0) for the Euros as Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose in a collision with an opponent in the second half.
The 25-year-old superstar underwent tests after the match which confirmed the initial diagnosis, however he will not be giving up the fight. The new ace of Real will remain with the team and he will compete again soon wearing a special protective mask. However, for now his participation in Friday’s big match against the Netherlands (22:00) is extremely doubtful, while the match against Poland follows on Tuesday.
“Mbappe will follow treatment without immediately undergoing surgery. A special mask will be made to allow him to return to the event after a period of treatment“, states the official information from the French federation.
RMC contacted a specialist surgeon, who pointed out that “… he will have no problem competing with a mask, however what will be difficult is his breathing, because there is swelling inside his nose. The swelling could be reduced with corticosteroids, but that would certainly affect your performance. The organization lasts another three weeks and theoretically the swelling can subside in 10-14 days. After the Euros he will have to decide if he will undergo surgery or continue with his relegation but with discomfort, at least for a while».
It is worth noting that Mbappe has 12 goals in 14 World Cup appearances, but has yet to score in Euros in five appearances.
