His first interview as her coach Liverpool granted by Arne Slott on the club’s website.
The new Reds coach spoke about their football rivalry City with the Liverpool and hers Guardiola by Stealwho managed to inspire them all, while he also relied on the advice given to him by the German technician, for whom he emphasized that he left the club in a very good place.
In detail, what Arne Slott said in his first interview as Liverpool coach:
On the advice Jurgen Klopp gave him: “He gave me some pretty good advice but what stood out to me is that he was genuinely happy for me. Klopp said that from now on he will be my biggest fan because he supports Liverpool in the best possible way and you don’t see that easily. So all of this says a lot about his character and how he handled the situation as well».
On the rivalry between Klopp and Guardiola that inspired his coaching style: “We were all inspired by the rivalry between City and Liverpool. We were all inspired by Guardiola and Klopp and I think at a big club, which I worked at and at Feyenoord, it’s probably the only style you can play – have a lot of the ball, have a lot of energy. Also, I think now there are comparisons between the club I left behind and the club I’m going to work for now».
Regarding his goals as the new manager of the Reds: “As I already said, Jurgen left the club in a very good place. I think we have a lot of quality and the way they played last season was already impressive, so we will build from there. Of course, you want to take some people with you because they know who you are, they know your style of play and they can translate that to the other people on the staff.
But if you go to a club like Liverpool, you can assume – and I’ve already noticed – that there are a lot of good people already working here. So we hope to use the best of both ‘worlds’ to implement a few things of our own and use the knowledge that exists within this club already due to the nine years that Jurgen and his staff have been here».
On the relationship he seeks to create with Liverpool fans: “There is a change, but I hope the change is not that big, because we still have the same players, we still have the same fans – and if they both do the same job, that will make my life a lot easier! I expect them to show up again next season, and the same for the players. I will do my best to lead the team in the best possible way».
