In the final of the Polish table tennis championship in Warsaw, Bogoria Grodzisk of Panagiotis Gionis defeated Dzialdovo with 3-2 sets and was crowned Polish champion for the third year in a row.

An exciting four-hour match decided the championship, with Bogoria impressively “turning around” the situation from 0-2 behind the score and owing it to the top “ambassador” of Greek table tennis for the beginning of the turnaround. Gionis overcame the international Pole Dizas with a 3-1 set and renewed the team’s faith in victory, while the fact that he was named athlete of the year is of particular importance. He achieved this in one of the best European championships and at the end received an award.

He enjoyed his fifth title with Bogoria (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023 the previous ones) and the eighth in a foreign league, as he has recorded two in Germany with Borussia Dusseldorf (2015, 2016) and one in the Czech Republic with Ostrava (2018). ).

In Szeligi near Warsaw, in “Hali Transcolor” the race and in an impressive atmosphere with enthusiastic events, mascots, dj, presentation of teams with entrance of athletes and floodlights.

This was the fourth final between the two teams in the last six seasons of the Polish Super League. Bogoria had won twice and Dzialdovo once. Also, this year they met in the double final of the Europe Cup. Gioni’s team had lost 3-0 home and away sets, but indicative of the balance of power is the fact that five of the six individual games had ended in five sets.

Even tonight, the match was full of fluctuations and suspense. Dziedovo got off to a perfect start when they took a 2-0 set lead, dropping just one set apiece. Then, however, Gionis “spoke” with a great appearance. He kept his team in the match with a difficult 3-1 victory against Poland’s Jacob Dyzas and at the same time gave the impetus for the counter-attack.

Later came the equalizer and everything was decided in the double. Bogoria also used a fourth player there, Japan’s outstanding Jin Takuya, who combined perfectly with Poland’s Milos Rezymski to give Bogoria victory and the title amid wild celebrations.

Before the awards were given to the finalists, the MVP of the year award was presented to Gionis, who had only two losses on the season. “I didn’t expect to play so well with Dizas, since, having treatment on the leg, I have missed a lot of training lately. When I won the first set I started to believe it more and then I played really well. I didn’t expect it and finally… I remembered how I played a little while ago”, said Gionis in the evening, who started the matches of the final stage of preparation for the Olympic Games amazingly and added:

“After going down we all felt the momentum was ours. Our performance went up, Groth also had an injury and was afraid before Paris to play full with Badowski and in the doubles we were now excellent. The title was a tremendous success, it was a great season because we also went to the European final, while the result was wonderful and on a personal level I was also the most valuable athlete of the year”.
