The announcement

Athens Kallithea FC announces the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Bernabe Barragan, known as Bernabe, who will join the club after his contract with Segunda Division side Albacete expires on July 1, 2024, subject to the successful completion of a medical.

Bernabe, 31, had spells at Real Betis, Atletico Madrid, and Gimnastic before joining Albacete, where he spent the last four seasons and captained the club.

Born in Los Palacios y Villafranca in the province of Seville, Bernabe rose through the academies of hometown club Real Betis, making his professional debut with Real Betis B in the third division at the age of 18, making a total of 11 appearances for the reserves during the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, before leaving for Atletico Madrid.

Bernabe spent four seasons at Atletico Madrid, training regularly with the first team while also claiming game time with Atletico Madrid B between 2013/14 and 2016/17.

After moving to Gimnastic in July 2017, Bernabe became a regular starter for the first time in his career, making 23 appearances as a starter (conceding 32 goals, keeping six clean sheets) in the Segunda Division in the 2018/19 season and 28 appearances as a starter (conceding 38 goals, kept five clean sheets) in Segunda Division B in the 2019/20 season.

In August 2020, Bernabe returned to the Segunda Division with Albacete. Bernabe took the starting gloves for the last five games of the season, but by then the club were already heading for relegation to the third division. The following season, however, Bernabe was named team captain and helped Albacete return to the Segunda Division, conceding just 17 goals and keeping 14 clean sheets in 25 games. Bernabe has retained the captain’s armband with the Segunda Division side over the past two seasons, making a total of 55 appearances as a starter, conceding 68 goals and keeping 14 clean sheets.

Welcome, Bernabe.
