Vezhenkov: “For now I’m a Raptors player – I have to see how they feel about me”

by

He left all possibilities for his future open Sasha Vezenkov on the sidelines of his visit to a summer camp for children in Sofia. The Bulgarian international emphasized that he is currently a player of Raptors, but he waits for them to talk to ascertain their intentions for him. At the same time, he declared that he was flattered by the strong interest from several European teams and emphasized that his goal is for the new season to find him in good condition.

In detail, what the 28-year-old forward, who has been interested in Olympic but also the Panathinaikos:

“Right now all I can say is that I’m a Raptors player. We haven’t talked yet. You know last season wasn’t the easiest for me, but I’m working hard, I feel good. I don’t know how long I will stay in Bulgaria, this summer is somewhat more special. I’m spending more time in Greece also because of my injury, I’m doing treatments there and we’ll see what happens. I try to focus on myself as much as I can.

Right now I’m a Raptors player, we have to see what they want from me, what their mood is. It’s going to be a long summer and all I care about is staying healthy. As for the teams interested in me, it’s always nice to have you. There are also good dilemmas in life. However, I say it again, right now all I care about is being healthy. I have focused a lot on myself to be at 100% at the start of the year.

My injury was the icing on the cake and yes, it obviously affected my season. But it was clear early on that the style the coach wanted to play in didn’t include me. It’s okay though, that’s life. It’s just kind of distressing when you’re told one thing and something different happens.

I have no ill feelings about Sacramento and the people who welcomed me there. I made a lot of friends in the group. Everything was professional, helpful and I will forever be grateful that they gave me the opportunity for my first NBA experience.

Everything is different there, it’s another country. At 28 it was much harder to adjust than what I experienced at 17 and 18. New style of play, from the top of Europe you go and be one of them all. You have to prove things from scratch and it affects you.

I did my best. Many factors played a role, but I’m definitely happy with the decision I made a year ago. She was correct. Who rejects the NBA? This can not be done.

This past season showed me which people I respect, which people I love, it taught me to be confident and never give up. The NBA is a new lesson that shows you how quickly things can change.

You must always be ready, never give up and you must also believe in yourself. Whenever I can I want to come to Bulgaria so that the children have an example to follow. A lot of kids got interested in the NBA because of me, that was a goal. Children are the future and we must show them the right path.”
