“Greece was the favourite, they have an excellent team with Giannis the leader, but it’s not just him. It has guys with a lot of experience, who have won Euroleagues. We tried to play but we didn’t start well at all and we gave them a boost. Then we executed some phases well, but Greece took a big lead and in front of this crowd it was difficult to come back.
We have some new children for the first time, for them it was a school to be here. It is important, because some of our players grow up. Luka Doncic is a superstar, he is an amazing kid who came to play for the National team after such a long season, sacrificing his time to play for Slovenia. He gave everything he had to the team and the people at SEF recognized him and applauded him at the end. Anyone who knows and understands basketball knows how to appreciate great players like Luka.
In 2017 we won the Eurobasket, went to the Olympics in 2021 and achieved some important successes. We have quality players, but we also want fresh blood. I am always optimistic, because we always find a way. As long as we have Lukas and support from the federation, we will find the solutions. We’re a small country, we don’t have that many basketball players, but we have people who play with heart and that’s important.”
