Two days after Germany’s elimination from the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, Mr Toni Kroos he also formally wrote the epilogue to his immense career, something that had been foretold for some time. The 34-year-old midfielder thanked those who helped him become who he became, but also the sport itself for what he experienced. And it was not a few, since among other things he won the World Cup (2014), six Champions Leagues, four Spanish championships and three German championships.
“So that was it. But before I take a break and at least try to realize what happened in the last 17 years, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has accepted who I am, the way I am.
Thank you to all my fans around the world for your unconditional support. I thank all my clubs and coaches who believed in me.
Thanks to all my teammates for always making me feel welcome. I thank my friends for always being honest with me no matter how successful I became.
I thank my managers for becoming friends. I thank my parents for the best possible preparation to make my dream come true.
Thanks to my brother for always being my #1 fan. Thanks to my kids for being my biggest motivation to do my best- nothing beats seeing your kids proud of dad.
Thank you my beautiful wife for being you. Never change. This success would not have been possible without all of you. It is ours!
And last but not least: Thank you Soccer! You are a great game. And… please! Over».
