A lawyer for Prince Harry today accused the British tabloid Daily Mail of resorting to private detective to gather information on his brother’s birthday party in 2023.
Harry and seven other celebrities, including singer Elton John and actress Liz Harley, have been involved in a lawsuit with Associated Newspaper (ANL), the publishing house to which the Daily Mail belongs to violating their privacy. Among other things, they accuse the newspaper of resorting to illegal methods, such as phone calls or of hiring a detective, to access medical records for the reports he published, initially between 1993-2011 and also in 2018.
Today, a London Supreme Court was held a hearing in view of the trial scheduled for January.
In the written conclusions he submitted to the court, plaintiffs’ lawyer David Serbone referred to a report published in June 2003, on the eve of William’s birthday party (closed 21) on “Beyond Africa”. According to the “many details” contained in the text, they suggest that the information was collected by illegal methods. He cited, among other things, the account of a private detective, dated August 25, 2003, referring to the party, as well as another account that referred to telephone data belonging to a “Kathryn Middleton”.
Anl denies all categories. The group’s lawyer said that his details were filed “with a long delay”.
Some of the plaintiffs, such as Elton’s wife John David Fernis and actress Sandy Frost, were in court today. The rest could watch the procedure by video call, as a user who was identified as a “prince Harry” did.
