Spain is in a state of euphoria after the conquest of the Eurowhich came thanks to his goal Mikel Oyarthabal in the last minutes of the final.
The Sociedad striker was one of the eight Basques who were members of the team that was crowned European champions, however it seems that some of their fellow citizens were not so happy.
You see, in the village of Elorio, where the mother of Roja’s golden scorer comes from, a banner appeared that read “not in the Spanish national team”with the names of Oyarthabal and Merino be spray-painted on the wall directly below, along with the word “traitors”.
Naturally, this move by Basque nationalists caused reactions, while the general secretary of the Basque party EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, said that “I will never celebrate a victory for the Spanish national team. It’s not my team, it’s not my king, it’s not my national anthem. The state is denying Basque players to play for their regular national team.”
I have just filed a complaint with the Municipal Police of Elorrio for a hate crime against the miserable authors of these graffiti and posters.
