“Athens Kallithea FC announces the signing of Czech left wing-back Matej Hanousek on a free transfer.
Hanousek, 31, has extensive experience in the Czech top flight, including three seasons at Sparta Praha, the country’s biggest club, with whom he won the Czech Cup, before going on to spend the next three seasons in the top flight in Poland and Turkey .
Born in Prague, Hanousek began his professional career at Dukla Praha, making his first division debut at the age of 19 in May 2013. Establishing himself as a starter over the next two seasons, Hanousek moved to Jablonec where he spent three and a half seasons, culminating in a third-place finish in 2017/18 and participation in the UEFA Europa League in 2018/19 which earned him a move to Czech giants Sparta Praha in January 2019.
At Sparta, Hanousek made a total of 80 appearances with three goals and six assists over the next three seasons, winning the Czech Cup in 2019/20 and playing in the UEFA Europa League in 2020/21.
After nine consecutive seasons with 177 total appearances in the Czech first division, Hanousek was loaned to the Polish Ekstraklasa with Wisla Krakow in 2021/22 and the Turkish Super Lig with Gaziantep and Ankaragucu in 2022/23, until Ankaragucu signed him acquired on a permanent transfer for the 2023/24 season, with Hanousek making 37 total appearances over the past season and a half.
As an international, Hanousek has represented the Czech Republic with the U-20 and U-21 National Teams.
