He passed away at the age of 85 Lazaros Lesic. The basketball man from Skopje has been associated with the golden years of Aris, as he was an assistant to Giannis Ioannidis and then he was also the first coach.
He had been in intensive care at a Skopje hospital for days, due to a serious health problem he was dealing with.
Lesic has a big contribution to make them come to Mars Lefteris Subotic, Mihail Misunov, Stojan Vrankovic, Goran Sobin and Miroslav Pecharski.
After the departure of the “blonde” in 1990, the so-called “ninja” was promoted as the first coach and in 1991, alongside Michalis Kyritsis, he won the team’s last championship to date.
In the summer of 1992, together with the change of management, Lazaros Lesic officially left the team.
In addition to his time at Aris, he was an assistant coach for the Yugoslavian national team that won gold in the 1970 World Championships.
One of the sayings that have made history in Greek basketball belongs to the deceased. In 1992, in the last game of the regular season, PAOK lost 88-85 to Olympiakos in the SEF and Aris was left out of the finals, with Lesic leaving hints about the choice of opponent from his compatriot: “To become king in the jungle, one must kill the lion, but PAOK preferred to kill the fox“, he had said.
KAE Aris said goodbye to Lazaros Lesic with a moving post: “Lazarus went to meet Giannis to coach ARIS together again from above. Lazarus is no longer here, but he will never leave. He will always be in our hearts and souls. The family of ARIS is mourning. From today she is poorer. Lazar Lesic, we will never forget you».
