THE Panathinaikos threw two more points after the draw 2-2 with the fighting spirit Athens Kallithea in Leoforo for the 3rd matchday of the Stoiximan Super League and is already five points away from the top!
The “clover” showed the… known troubled person within the walls with the result that the newly enlightened group -which phe got up very decently, created many phases and also had a goal with Diba in the 36th minute – leading by two, thanks to the goals of Moutinho in the 28th minute and Valbuena – who came on as a substitute earlier – in the 80th minute.
Tete’s goal in the third minute of stoppage time rescued a point, while Djuricic had leveled again in the 32nd minute, in tragic first half of his team.
Panathinaikos’ next obligation in the league is the derby against PAOK in Toumba, while Athens Kallithea also plays away from home, against Lamia.
In the minds of the coaches:
OR Athens Kallithea lined up with two changessystem 3-4-2-1Bernabé in goal and Motok, Isimat Mirren and Pasalidis trio at the back. Manthatis and Hanousek took the two sides, as right and left full back respectively, Matija and Diba played as “cutters”, while Demetrius-Moutinho was behind the promoted Uldrikis.
THE Panathinaikos on the other hand “went down” with me three changesformation 4-2-3-1 and Dragovski under the goalposts, while Kotsiras, Schenkefeld, Jedvai and Mladenovic made up the four in defense. Arau and Cerin were the two midfielders on the axis, with Mancini-Djuricic on the wings and Tete behind Ioannidis, who formed the center forward.
The match:
Panathinaikos entered with the goal of scoring a quick goal, saw the unmarked Schenkefeld’s header go wide in the 5th minute, but then had the well-known bad start to his games.
With Athens Kallithea taking advantage of his sluggish face, closing down spaces, moving the ball quickly and at the same time threatening on three occasions…
First in the 8th minute, with Dragovski having difficulty clearing Demetrius’ diagonal shot from the left. To score three minutes later, but for Pasalidis’ goal to be disallowed with the use of VAR and to miss the great opportunity in the 13th minute, with Uldrikis’ header narrowly going wide!
The pattern remained the same thereafter and just like that, the… normal 1-0 came just before the half-hour mark. When from the individual effort of Demetrius from the left, the unmarked Moutinho scored with projection!
The “greens” tried and managed to get an immediate reaction, initially threatening with Tete in the 30th minute and equalizing two minutes later. As Djuricic headed in Jedvai’s header to make it 1-1!
They didn’t seem to be… learning, however, as it turned out, and as a result they received a new ‘siege’ in their frames within minutes… With Demetrius missing a double chance against Dragovski to make it 2-1, in the 35th minute and Diba sees his shot in the very next phase stop at the left post of Panathinaikos’ goal.
Who also had his… moment, with Bernabé having difficulty repelling Tete’s shot, after his combination with Ioannidis and Djuricits.
And the last word belongs to the hosts, in the third minute of stoppage time, but Isimat Mirren cannot score with projection, being unguarded at the second post.
In the second half, the home team did not come in as strong, seeing Panathinaikos a reach a final first, with the unmarked Cherin wasting it, however, with his misplaced header in the 52nd minute.
They continued, of course, to completely control the game, forcing Diego Alonso to make three changes before the hour mark. They also made their presence felt later on, with Uldrikis’s miss shot in the 62nd minute, while Dragovski said no to their terrific goal and Hanousek’s final effort two minutes later!
The “clover” played from 67′ with Tete and Pelistri on the wings and Bakasetta behind Ioannidis, but instead of scoring in the last four with Bernabé in 70′, he conceded that goal…
As after a counterattack by Athens Kallithea and collaboration between Uldrikis-Moutinho with Valbuena as the final receiver, he scored with a spot kick on his debut, coming on as a substitute, and scored 2-1!
Panathinaikos scored with Vagiannidis, in the 82nd minute, but the goal did not count as it was offside, with the equalizer finally coming in the second minute from Tete, after an effort by Pelistri!
Even so, of course, the newcomers could have won in the 94th minute, but Dragovski beat Moutinho in an unrepeatable four-on-four, keeping it 2-2…
MVP: Valbuena scored the winning goal shortly after entering the match, in fact. However, Demetrius played a very big matchhaving a steal and an assist on his team’s first goal, a big double missed opportunity to be anointed top scorer himself while he was involved in almost every good action for Athens Kallithea until he was substituted.
the “whistle”: Katsikogianni’s refereeing is annoying, especially in regards to the non-attribution of some fouls. He correctly disallowed home goalsfor a foul on Dragovski, while the scorer Pasalidis was also offside. At the same time, he counted the goal scored by Djuricic, correctly, since he was covered by two opponents. Both phases were controlled by VAR. Vagiannidis’s offside was also clear, when he equalized.
The compositions of the two teams:
