Andros International Sailing Race: With difficult weather conditions and strong competition, the reputation of the race was confirmed

The 57th Andros International Sailing Race “Ioannis V. Goulandris” was completed, from a competitive point of view, with a sailing race where the wind intensity reached, in places, even six Beaufort winds and with waves exceeding three meters. The boat “Aristofani UK DC UK Defense Glub – UKP&I” (governor Simos Kambouridis) was the big winner of the race. In the last race Chora – Dysvato “Spyros M. Polemis” was championed by “Pete” (governor Doukas Paleologos).

The weather conditions of the 3rd race raised the adrenaline of the sailors and all the fans of the sport who were on the coasts of Chora had the opportunity to watch a start, in which most of the Greek open sea racing crews took part. Strong north-westerly winds helped the yachts to reach Dysvatos quickly and the crews enjoyed a race with the particularities of this sailing track.

“I am delighted that for the second year in a row our crew emerged as the winner. The race confirmed its nickname “The toughest race”. We had both wind and rain. In the last race, the Strait, thanks to its morphology, produced nice big waves and we enjoyed gliding on them”, said Simos Kambouridis, skipper of “Aristofani UK DC UK Defense Glub – UKP&I”.

On the eve of the start of the last sailing race, the awarding ceremony of the “Eurobank Private Bank Cup” coastal race took place at the Andros Nautical Club, while the small sailors of the Club were also awarded. The event was attended, among others, by the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis, the Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogiannis, the Deputy Minister of Sports Giannis Vroutsis, the General Secretary of Contemporary Culture Eleni Doundoulakis and others.

The “curtain” of the event will fall this evening (20.00) at the Naval Club of Greece with the awarding of trophies for the last race and for the general ranking.
