Obradovic on Partizan’s season: “We lost two players who won the Euroleague and one who played in the NBA finals”

OR They were partisans had a very negative season in 2023-24, failing to win any domestic titles while missing out on the playoffs in Euroleague. This situation led her to a total “facelift” in the summer, after she essentially changed her entire 12 with the aim of returning to the “high flights”.

Speaking about the start of the preparation and ahead of the new competition season, Mr Zeljko Obradovic he faced questions about what went wrong last season and referred to the loss of several key players, while also talking about the many signings that took place this summer.

What he said in detail:

For last season: “It happened that we changed the team last year, four of our extremely important players left. Two of them were European champions (Matias Lesor and Ioannis Papapetrou). One was in the Final Four (Madar), and another played in the NBA Finals (Dade Exum). We are talking about the exceptional quality these players had.

Last year’s transition period was marked by a situation I don’t want to talk about (Mirotic’s breach of contract). This led to the creation of the team we created. I was satisfied, in the circumstances we were in, how we reacted. Unfortunately or out of ignorance, because I believe fortune follows the brave, we clearly weren’t brave enough. We lost 12 games that were decided in one possession… ».

At his own risk: “I guess it’s a consequence of us not working well, I don’t give good advice or the players don’t work at the end as we agreed. Whatever it was – it was wrong. These are the reasons why we did not have a successful season. Besides, if we had won two or three more games, it would have been a completely different story. That’s the sport, you’re always on the edge, we depend on it. When a game turns, so does the season. We have to do everything to prevent it from happening again this season and we will work on it.”

For this summer and the total “facelift”: “It was an amazing summer, because we didn’t plan to create a new team. A set of circumstances led to this, some players ended their contracts, with some we reached an agreement on the solution and when we sat down Ostoja Mihajlovic (president) and Zoran Savic (sporting director), because really their opinion is important, then we got the decisions we made. We are satisfied with these decisions.”
