Spain, we have a problem: Another racist attack in the stadiums

by

The Spanish football is in crisis. While the Vinicius constantly trumpets that the World Cup of 2030 should not take place in Spain due to the racism faced by football players, another episode came to reinforce the words of the Brazilian star of Real Madrid.

This time the incident did not take place in La Liga, but in the country’s second division. Specifically, in the Asturias derby that took place on Saturday 07/09 between Sporting Gijon and Real Oviedotwo teams with great and historical rivalry, o HasanOviedo player and former Sporting player, was racially attacked by a home fan. The Sporting fan allegedly hurled insults at the player as he approached the stands, calling him a ‘pu… son’ and a ‘fuck… monkey’.

A shameful act that unfortunately has become routine in the stadiums of Spain. Sporting emphasized that it will do everything to find the perpetrator: “Real Sporting is working to identify the fan who insulted a player of the visiting team today. Our club does not tolerate any form of racism. We are already investigating what happened. We applaud and appreciate the general behavior of our fans.”

It was certain that the reception Hassan would receive would be hostile. He may not have gone from Barcelona to Real, but his move to the “eternal” rival is something that the fans hardly forgive. But in this case the limits were crossed. And so the Spanish Federation as well as the clubs must investigate in depth the issue, which certainly has other ramifications, beyond football.
