Intercontinental Cup: Starts tomorrow in Singapore with the participation of six teams

The expanded FIBA Intercontinental Cup starts tomorrow (12/09) in Singapore with the participation of six teams.

From this year, the organization also has a team from Oceaniain the context of the addition of teams from all Continents, as in 2022 a representative of Africa was added and in 2023 a team from Asia.

In this year’s Intercontinental, the winner of the Basketball Champions League takes part, Unicaja MalagaBasketball Africa League winner Petro De Luanda of Angola Basketball Champions League Asia winner Al Riadi Beirut of Lebanon Kimsa of Argentina as Basketball Champions League Americas winner Tasmanian Jackjubbers Champions of Australia and NBA G LEAGUE UNITED, G-League select team.

The six teams were divided into two groups of three. They will play two games each in the group. The winners of the two groups will play in the Intercontinental Cup 2024 grand final, the runners-up in the minor finals and the third-placed in each group will play for places 5-6.

The Groups are:

Group A: Unicaja Malaga, Petro de Luanda, Al Riadi Beirut.

Group B: Kimsa, Tasmania Jackjubbers, NBA G LEAGUE UNITED.

The group matches will take place from 12 to 14 September and the finals on 15 September.

In Greece, the matches are broadcast by COSMOTE SPORT9HD.

The Intercontinental Cup will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Singapore Indoor Stadium, a multi-purpose venue that can accommodate between 4,000 and 12,000 spectators.

Some of our familiar players will also play in this year’s event.

In Malaga there are former players of Greek teams, such as Kendrick Perry (Panathinaikos), Tyson Carter (Lavrio), and Oleg Balcherovski (Panathinaikos).

The American Manny Harris, who won the 2018 Basketball Champions League with AEK and was named MVP of the season, plays in Al Riadi.

In Petro De Luanda, the Angolan center Yannick Moreira plays for Greek teams (PAOK, Peristeri, AEK, Colossos of Rhodes)

The Tasmanian Jackjumpers are coached by American Scott Roth, formerly a Panathinaikos player in 1991, only for the 1990/91 Korats Cup matches. A white left-handed power forward with an excellent long shot, who has been pursuing a coaching career since the early 2000s.

On the G-League roster, we’ll see Juan Toscano Anderson, a 2022 NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors.
