End of an era for Nicolas Batum and the French national team!
After from 15 years, 177 appearancesthe “first time» in Eurobasket 2013 and two Olympic silver medals in Tokyo in 2021 but also this year in Paris, the 35-year-old forward announced that he is leaving the “blues”.
In particular, with a post on social media, Batum – who has consistently been a key member of France – declared his pride in what he achieved with the representative group of his country.
“From my first cap against Austria (on July 24, 2009) to my last cap against Team USA… Now it’s time to close this great chapter and pass the baton to the new generation. Wearing the national team jersey is the best thing that has happened to me in my career, I will be eternally grateful“, he initially said.
He added: “Thank you to all my teammates for these lifetime memories, thank you to all the staff we worked with every summer, thank you to Vincent (s.c. Collet federal coach). I am proud to have contributed to the writing of part of the History of French basketball. Now for the youngsters, the national team is in good hands and I know this shirt will continue to shine».
