Winner on Saturday in two of the three singles-doubles, h Team World led 8-4 against the Team Europeon his second day Laver Cupon Saturday (21/9) in Berlin. The two were tied 2-2 on Friday (9/20) at the end of the first day.
Team World, led by former world no.1 John McEnroewon the first singles on Saturday thanks to American Francis Tiafoe, the winner of Russia’s Daniil Medvedev (3-6, 6-4, 10-5).
After 4-2 at the end of this first match, Team Europe, led by the Swedish legend Bjorn Borgreturned thanks to the victory of Carlos Alcarath against Ben Shilton (6-4, 6-4 ).
Team World went ahead again (6-4) with the success of American Taylor Fritz against German Alexander Zverev, 6-4, 7-5 in just under two hours.
The doubles brought two additional points to Team World (8-4), after the American Ben Shilton and the Chilean Alejandro Tabillo easily won the night with 6-1, 6-2 the duo of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Kasper Rud.
The ‘Laver Cup’ was launched in 2017 by Roger Federer, – an event inspired by the Ryder Cup in golf and named as a tribute to Australian Rod Laver, the last player to achieve the ‘calendar’ Grand Slam, in 1969, and pits against six top European players to another six representing the “rest of the world”.
There are four matches per day (three singles and one doubles).
On Friday the victory earns 1 point, on Saturday 2 points and on Sunday 3 points. The first of the two teams to get 13 points out of 24 possible wins wins. Team Europe won the first four events, Team World the last two.
