Aris got a great result in the 5th matchday of the championship, after defeating Olympiakos with a score of 2-1, making a very good appearance in “K. Vikelides”.
One day after this particular match, Mr Akis Manzios was invited to the NOVA show, “Hour of the Champions” and talked about his team’s progress so far, the differences compared to last year, the Greek coaches in general and the young Clayton Dydywhich impresses.
What he said in detail
For yesterday’s game: “Everything went well yesterday against a difficult opponent, it was a very important win.”
On whether this year’s team is different from last year: “For sure this year is different compared to last year, the team invested where we really needed, we have a group with a lot of quality. We have a core from last year there is a balance to it, we are a big team the demands are big and we have to win every game home and away.”
On his team’s performance that hasn’t convinced him so far: “If we look at the games we’ve played, I think we had a very bad first half with OFI, in our blocking area apart from the individual mistakes, if we manage to find our balance and the rest of the guys who came late to the club to reach the level of the rest, there is a demand and we must present ourselves better game by game”.
As for Aris’ next league game: “The derby with PAOK comes after the game with Ethnikos, which we should be serious about, after this match we will deal with the game in Toumba.”
On the mood in the city for the upcoming derby: “It’s something special, the whole city lives and breathes for these games. There is pressure like in any big team, here the situation is more special, the fans live for these games”.
For the Greek coaches: “In general, there is no patience for the Greek coach, the negative criticism is greater than a foreigner, this exists from everyone involved in football. It doesn’t hurt me, I’ve been on Mars for 30 months so it’s not something that bothers me, I’m used to it, I try to remain unaffected and do my job, there is generally no patience not only for me but for all Greeks, there are Greek coaches who they can work if they are given the step and the opportunity, I was given the opportunity at Aris”.
For Diadi: “The team saw him, watched him all summer, signed him early and he’s a project that we believe in a lot especially when we’re talking about an 18-year-old kid, he shows that he has talent and he has incredible courage, he should keep his head down and work, we all try in the dressing room to have him close and he will get what he deserves in the future”.
